kambo treatment

Kambo should always be taken with a properly trained person administering and supervising the treatments at all times. Kambo is intense but fast. The unpleasant effects are strong and immediate but over within 30 - 45 minutes.

The dried Kambo is mixed with a small amount of water and divided into small points. You will be asked to drink about 2 liters of water before the Kambo is applied. This helps with the purging process as Kambo draws toxins into the stomach and the water will act as the vehicle to carry it out. The water will also help mitigate some of the heat that is created in the body as a result of the Kambo.

Then small points called gates are placed into the surface of the skin. The top thin layer of skin is blistered with a hot stick and the skin is peeled off to expose the epidermis underneath. This is the same as when you have a blister and the skin rubs off.  There is no blood.

Traditionally men have the medicine applied to their upper left arm or chest, while women typically have it placed on their lower right leg. Kambo treatments can also incorporate the chakra system, as well as auricular and meridian points. The type of treatment will depend on first time experience, subsequent treatments and what one is wishing to work on.

The number and position of the gates varies from person to person depending on individual needs. If you have a series of treatments in the same session, the same gates can be reused. The small points of Kambo are applied to the gates. This is the only way to take Kambo.  It is not safe to ingest it or introduce it into the blood stream directly. The Kambo points will remain on the skin for 20 to 40 minutes before being washed off.

during your kambo treatment

The Kambo enters directly into the Lymphatic System, waking up the body's natural ability to heal itself on a cellular level. The effect is very fast. Most people experience a warm to hot flush on the upper body and face along with increased heart rate. At this point, different people will react in different ways.

Some will feel dizzy, foggy or spaced out. Some people have swollen lips or face and slight skin tingling. The Kambo will be racing around your body, scanning it for problems and then going directly to work on those areas. You may experience a throbbing or burning sensation in those areas for a short while.

Kambo is not psychoactive so does not produce hallucinations but can produce a short altered state of reality. Many people receive insights and messages about living a healthier life.

After the initial flush, the blood pressure will begin to fall and you will start to feel nauseous. This is the point where purging usually begins. Purging is encouraged allowing and aiding the body to release what is not serving us on the physical, emotional, mental, energetic and spiritual level.

Purging is most commonly achieved through vomiting, though other common reactions can be sweating, shaking, emotional release, fainting, rigor, needing to go to the bathroom, or various combinations of these. Whatever the case, the purging process is a process to embrace. We do not view it as being sick. Instead, we view it as getting well.

There are never any guarantees in the discomfort one may experience, with people occasionally reporting deep states of calm meditation, alongside feelings of euphoria and bliss.

Your IAKP Kambo practitioner Maria is in deep gratitude to be in service to Kambo. Maria will hold sacred space and will be present during your Kambo treatment without judgment or trying to impact the outcome of the process.

Maria will be guiding you through the process to get you through it as safely and comfortably as possible.

after your kambo treatment

After your Kambo treatment you will either feel invigorated or exhausted. It is not entirely uncommon to have a headache for some time or feel a little run down before you start to feel better. The days after a treatment are when people generally begin to feel the real benefits of Kambo feeling clean, clear, rejuvenated and energised. For some the after effects are more subtle.

There are a number of people that will however experience a herxheimer response, also known as a "healing crisis", in the days following their treatment. This is a short term detoxification reaction to the body clearing out large amounts of toxins.

As with any kind of transformational work, integration the period of time after your Kambo treatment, is one of the most important aspects of the process.

If you are going back to an unhealthy lifestyle, the benefits will not be as pronounced. It is a good idea to take the rest of the day of to integrate your experience. Avoid putting yourself in intense or stressful situations.

If you can be in nature, that is best, but at the very least try to avoid excessive exposure to technology or other unnecessary distractions to see and feel what is coming up to the surface for you to heal.

The burn marks will heal and fade with time but depending on your skin colour and type you may always have small visible scars. Most people see their Kambo scars as a badge of honour. The same points can be reused after approximately 3 months.

After the points of Kambo are removed, the gates are dressed with Sangre De Drago or Dragon’s Blood. This helps them to heal faster and reduces infections until they scab naturally within a day or so.
